THE OUTLANDS
by Mark Niehus
I’m goin’ out,
out to the Outlands
where everything’s beautiful
and there’s ladies on the make,
pretending not to be on the make,
makin’ eyes,
makin’ out under frantic tree shadows
from sinister street lights
with crazed moth-like hair,
stealing from the moon destined visitors.
And under the black street skin
lead speckled stairs
to dark and orange
and glow of goings on
to words on eyes with this time
with glance of neck,
admired,
even impressed by philosophies
and authenticity
of the Outland minds of beauty.
And down narrow sticky hall
on wall leans love
growing larger ideas of itself,
it’s out on the land,
it’s naked and roaming
archaic and shining,
moving with creativity
carried on by the possibility
of this all being true.
