Eva Kalpadaki
Eva Kalpadaki,
photographer
Born in Greece 1974. After she was awarded a Greek State Foundation scholarship she moved to UK to complete a PhD in Arts and Communication (Photography) at UCA. She is currently based in Brighton working as a fine art photographer and photography lecturer. She also holds a degree in Physics from the University of Patras and a degree in Photography from T.E.I. of Athens in Greece, as well as a PGCE teaching certificate from the University of Brighton.
In Eva’s practice she works against the conventions of what our expectations from Photography are. She is not using the photographic medium to produce a record and a document of our world, which is what we usually expect to see in a photograph. Instead she uses it to question the nature of photography and to cause a tension in what we are looking at. The artist plays between representation and abstraction, producing photographs that become diachronic objects of aesthetic contemplation.
