For many years I have been intrigued by the variety of ways in which people go about communing with or attempting to communicate with each other …… or so I believed. Exploring the body language and physical gestures of people with learning/social aberrations, I have come to understand over time that it is not the overt communication between characters which has been the central theme of my work, but the self communion; the thoughts and conversations occurring in the minds of characters during and after communication. I am particularly drawn towards quirks in personality and the touching, humorous events which can arise when two such individuals interact. In particular, I am very moved by the delicate awkwardness which may become visible when the mask of self possession slips to reveal a further aspect of the psyche of an individual. Within my work, boundaries between the characters are approached, but whether or not they will be crossed is highly dependent on their secret inner worlds and how they manage to make these understood.
My images have been published in books for children, used for advertising and exhibited in galleries in London and elsewhere.
Oh, and I firmly believe that for anyone, anywhere, anything is possible!
